Joaquin Tinta: His History, His
World, His Art (Ecuador)
The first generation of artists started in 1880 with Joaquin
Maria Tinta Cardenas in the city of Sangolqui. The small workshop that
Joaquin Maria opened started by crafting water fountains and house
wares. The next
generation, Rafael Humberto Tinta, continued in the making of
religious objects and house wares and then moved to Quito where the
appreciation for folk arts was starting to be felt.
The third generation began with Joaquin Humberto Tinta. He decides to move away from
the traditional silverware of the family, and as an artist, branches
out with the creation of fine jewelry and sculptures of his own
design. He
complements a rich family artistic heritage with the teachings of
master artists such as Victor Delfin (Peru), Aracelly Gilbert and
Oswaldo Guayamasin.
His life as a silversmith takes a higher artistic calling and
the quality of his works is gaining international recognition.
His current workshop is over 100 years old, he supports his
family and 15 more young artists from the region with the
traditional family silverware artworks, while he is focusing on
custom jewelry and sculptures.
He also takes time to pass to the next generation of Tinta’s
the fine art of working with high quality metals.
We are pleased to add Joaquin Tinta Figueroa’s collection of
fine sculptures to our ElCoquiGalleries.com. His favorite materials for
these sculptures are high quality gold, silver, bronze and
iron. The gold is 18
karat and the silver is 950 sterling. He mixes the different
metals to perfection on each piece. He adds precious and
semiprecious stones native from Ecuador; such as malaquitas,
lapisazul, jades, granite, amber…each one a high quality stone and
polished to perfection.
Joaquin Tinta was born within the metals and precious stones
family, lives among them, and immortalizes them through his
creations.
