Mexico is dotted with the rich mix of Indian, Spaniards, European cultures and subcultures. Each main city has a variety of arts and crafts that builds on their historical heritage. From Guerrero we are pleased to bring to you Amate paintings. Amate is the original paper used by the ancient Aztec and Mayan in their writings. These coarse and elegant paper is also a great canvass for painting. Our artisans have learned the art of painting in amate from generation to generation, each painter becoming more proficient as time progresses. In Quetzal Birds we appreciate the majestic birds posing over a flowering cactus tree. These birds, famous for their spectacular feathers, have been used to decorate the most honored kings from Mexican ancient cultures. This red and yellow interpretation of the birds is captured in the brownish amate canvass. Each picture is unique and hand-painted by Teresa Velasquez and comes with a Certification of Authenticity. Size 15"x21".
